This May I am walking the Camino de Santiago supporting @sobraveproject
So Brave is an Australian charity raising awareness and funding for breast cancer research. .
Empowering young breast cancer survivors through their calendars featuring model ambassadors, all diagnosed with breast cancer under the age of 40.
Those of you who have known me a long time, might recall I had cancer when I was 21.
My cancer story still feels like yesterday. I was finally diagnosed after months and months going to the doctor knowing innately something was wrong and being told not to worry after numerous tests. .
When I saw the 8th specialist he finally did a fine needle aspirate and that afternoon the words washed over me like a wave. ‘You have cancer we will need to operate next week and you will need radiotherapy/chemotherapy.’
At some point i checked out – I was numb. How could this be happening? I haven’t even had a chance to live my life yet. And the thought hit me – ‘Is this all there is?’ I was scared.
After my operation I was hit with complications which resulted in facial palsy on the left side of my face, which was challenging and what’s worse within two months the cancer was back.
Thankfully, I’m one of the lucky ones. I couldn’t think of a better way to walk the Camino – see you on the trails. . .
Any spare change you could donate to this worthy cause would be most appreciated 🙏🏽
